AI is Artificial, not Almost.

AI does stand for Artificial Intelligence. What you need to know is that AI isn't a new technology. It's not technology in that it requires you to be a techie to know it or use it. But it exists because of technology. More on this later.

Word-let (so you can smile like you know)

If you’re old enough to know this symbol, think Pac-Men. Agents are “vessels” that consume data and pretend they know everything, because sometimes they do. But sometimes agents are cocky folks who drink green smoothies after three hours of sleep and call you “bro.” So if you hear “agents,” or even “multi-agents are the only way to have more accuracy in predictability,” nod in agreement. Because having a “fleet” of data-consuming agents makes anyone almost intelligent.

Drop-let (this AI video is a jaw dropper)

You’re never going to use the app, but it’s important that you know AI can create something like this ad for Puppmarin, a pill for puppies, made with a new app Veo 3 from Google DeepMind. The product does not exist. Neither do these people. Reminder here: humor is critical and SO effective in any marketing. Even if it’s all fake.

Almost Tech to Try

Here’s another Google Extension. Grammarly. My fellow professors who are English purists have disdain for this wonderful tool. I insist my students use it (there is a free version, and many colleges/universities offer the robust version free). As with everything AI, if your friend or foe is using it and you’re not, well then you are at a disadvantage. Hey, if you're a purist like you’re the type who went into labor refusing an epidural, then ignore this.

Prompts (I’ll also index for future for reference)

Have you seen those personalized action figure dolls everyone is posting? I’ll leave this to you to search on it if you haven’t seen it yet. Using AI does use electricity. Don’t worry, it’s not your household electric bill. More on energy consumption later. But for now, I’ll leave the really silly stuff for you to discover all on your own.

Almost Profound (or not)

What’s not profound? Lots of names for these AI apps. And also ways to describe them. I’m shocked that no one has named an app Ursula yet. Or Mabel. But so far, the list is growing: Claude, Llama, Janitor, Flippy, DeepBeat, and Grok. But Grok is known to hallucinate. More on that term later. It’s the wrong word. It’s not like AI ate a big adult gummy.

Until Next Time

Stay curious, stay clever, and remember, almost intelligent is more than enough.
